In today’s episode, I will speak to Della Larsen about living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a fatal type of motor neuron disease. It is characterized by progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. While walking her dog in the Summer of 2022, Della noticed her left flip-flop was dragging. That changed into a limp that became worse over time. After her limp worsened, she went to see her doctor and was soon referred to a neurologist. After running extensive tests and being admitted to hospital, Della was diagnosed with ALS.
