Katrina Johnston-Zimmerman is an an urban anthropologist and lecturer from Philadelphia and she’s here to explain what difference we can make if we all think like an urban anthropologist. She was included in BBC’s 100 Women list for 2019 for her advocacy on women and girls in our urban environments. She co-founded The Women Led Cities Initiative. She is focused on direct observations of how people move through space, interact with the built environment, and socialize with each other (physically, and now digitally), how it is possible to improve urban planning and policy to create cities for people. She strives to continue this work wherever she goes, constantly observing her surroundings in order to better understand human behavior in cities.
When we think of these places as habitats for our species, the city takes on a new meaning, would you agree?
