I’m so excited to speak to Oluyemi Orija, who is a Nigerian criminal lawyer on a mission to make a difference. She is the founder of Headfort Foundation, which offers pro-bono legal services. Oluyemi graduated from the University of Ado-Ekiti, where she finished as one of the best in her class, and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, where she finished with a second-class upper division. As well as being the managing founder of her firm, she is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Nigeria
Based in Lagos, the legal team visits prisons to help poor and wrongly incarcerated inmates who are unable to get bail, as well as citizens enduring long pre-trial detentions (in Nigeria, those awaiting trial make up about 70% of the prison population). Oluyemi Adetiba-Orija and her team focus on underage offenders, offering them another chance at life outside prison.
