Sam Rice is a food and health writer and journalist, author of The Midlife Kitchen, a Sunday Times Bestselling cookbook as well as The Midlife Method, How to loose weight and feel great after 40.. Sam specialises in optimising your midlife by cooking and eating right.
Sam’s career has taken her from management consultant and travel business owner, to wine expert and for the last many years, food and health writer. After life had lobbed a few grenades; her father died in 2008 from a sudden heart attack aged just 59, and tragically her youngest brother Ben died four years later at 27 from complications arising from type-1 diabetes, Sam decided to go on a health journey.
In her early forties, it dawned on her that her genetic heritage combined with a lack of attention to general health was not exactly a recipe for longevity. When Ben died Sam decided that she owed it to him to look after her health as he has been so tragically robbed of his. Sam knew that what she ate was fundamental to her future health, she wanted to improve her relationship with food and so she set about doing so.
The culmination of her food awakening was the publication in 2017 of The Midlife Kitchen: Health-Boosting Recipes for Midlife & Beyond the Sunday Times best-selling cookbook Sam co-wrote with her good friend and award-winning journalist Mimi Spencer. Being a published food writer is not something she thought she would achieve in her lifetime but it just goes to show, you never know what’s around the corner.
Her new book The Midlife Method: How to Lose Weight and Feel Great After 40 was released at the end of 2020. Sam has created this website as a resource to accompany the book – for more recipes, tips and healthy living inspiration to help stay fit, lean and healthy in midlife.
