I’m honored to speak to American academic and animal behaviorist Temple Grandin about everything from autism to innovation. Dr. Grandin did not talk until she was three and a half years old. She was later diagnosed with autism. Thankfully, her parents rejected a doctor’s advice to place her in an institution and instead sent their daughter to a series of schools where her high IQ was nurtured. Watch until the end to find out how her own experience with autism funded her professional work in creating systems to counter stress in certain human and animal populations.

She went on to become a prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior while having a successful career consulting on both livestock handling equipment design and animal welfare. HBO made an Emmy Award-winning movie about her life starring Claire Danes and she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016. Today half the cattle in the United States are handled in facilities she has designed.

Grandin has written several books, including:
– Different Kinds of Minds: A Guide to Your Brain
– Autism and Education: The Way I See It: What Parents and Teachers Need to Know
– Visual Thinking
– Navigating Autism: 9 Mindsets For Helping Kids on the Spectrum
– The Outdoor Scientist – The Wonder of Observing the Natural World
– Calling All Minds – How to Think and Create Like an Inventor
– The Way I See It
– Thinking in Pictures, My Life with Autism
– The Autistic Brain – (Helping Different Kinds of Minds Succeed)
